Although the state of North Dakota only requires a commitment of 32 hours every 2 years, Dr. Hetland routinely averages more than 100 hours of such education yearly. He has studied with the LD Pankey Institute for advanced education and the Kois Center for dental education. Fewer than 5 percent of dentists in the United States take on the commitment of attending these prestigious institutes. In addition, Dr. Hetland continually strives to enhance patient care by choosing to study with some of dentistry's great educators such as Dr. Peter Dawson, Dr. Carl Misch, Dr .Jack Turbyfill and Dr. Edward Spiegel. His love for dentistry is also evident in his participation in charitable dental programs such as Give Back a Smile, Smiles for Life, Donated Dental Services, the Red River dental Access Clinic and Mission Jamaica. When not involved in dentistry or family activities, he can be seen training for triathlons or heard singing in church.
